Somatostatin receptor sst2 gene transfer in human prolactinomas in vitro: Impact on sensitivity to dopamine, somatostatin and dopastatin, in the control of prolactin secretion

► Prolactinomas resistant to dopamine agonist (DA) still express D2DR. ► We overexpressed sst2 in vitro by adenoviral infection in DA-resistant prolactinomas. ► Octreotide (sst2 agonist) became effective in prolactin (PRL) suppression. ► However dopastatin showed similar PRL suppression with or without sst2 overexpression. ► Regulation through D2DR remains dominant independent of functional sst2 coexpression.
