Apelin secretion and expression of apelin receptors in 3T3-L1 adipocytes are differentially regulated by angiotensin type 1 and type 2 receptors

► Effect of AngII on apelin secretion in adipocytes is dose-dependent and bi-phasic. ► AT1 receptor activation induces apelin secretion in Ca2+, PKC, MAPK kinase dependent ways. ► While AT2 activation inhibits apelin secretion through cAMP and cGMP dependent ways. ► Apelin receptor expression is also differentially regulated by AT1 and AT2 receptors. ► A detailed AngII signalling map, through AT1 and AT2 receptor, is proposed.
