Synergist effects of n-acetylcysteine and deferoxamine treatment on behavioral and oxidative parameters induced by chronic mild stress in rats

► Effects of n-acetylcysteine (NAC) and deferoxamine (DFX) in stressed rats. ► NAC alone or in combination with DFX reversed anhedonia in stressed rats. ► NAC and DFX reduced oxidative damage in the brain of stressed rats. ► NAC and DFX increased antioxidants enzymes in the brain of stressed rats. ► NAC and DFX presented synergistic effects in oxidative stress parameters and behavior.
