PERCEPCIONES JUVENILES DE CIUDADANÍA. EL CASO DE YUCATÁN1

ResumenEste trabajo constituye un acercamiento a la forma en que los jóvenes mexicanos perciben las nociones políticas que orientan su participación ciudadana. La conversación con los entrevistados revela que algunos valores como libertad, igualdad y solidaridad, los cuales están relacionados con la democracia, son visualizados como propios del sistema político de nuestro país. Sin embargo, estos jóvenes perciben al ciudadano y a la ciudadanía poco ligados con dichos valores o con las decisiones tomadas por la clase política. En consecuencia, mantienen la idea de que la obligación fundamental del ciudadano es participar en los procesos electorales. Otro horizonte de lucha política rara vez es contemplado.

This work is an approach to the way in which young Mexicans perceive the political notions that guide their participation as citizens. The conversation with the interviewees reveals that some values related to democracy such as freedom, equality and solidarity are viewed as belonging to the political system of our country. However, they perceive citizen and citizenship barely linked with these values or with the decisions taken by the political class. As a result, they maintain the idea that the only obligation of the citizen is to participate in the electoral process and another horizon of political strive is rarely contemplated.
