The authors report magnetic field (MF) induced grain growth of perylene polycrystalline films during vacuum deposition. It is clearly demonstrated that the grain size of perylene polycrystalline film was increased by 2.6 times with a 3.8 kG perpendicular MF to the substrate at the deposition temperature of 30 °C. In contrast, the grain size was decreased by applying a parallel MF to the substrate. This MF effect on the grain growth becomes stronger at higher deposition temperature. The mechanism of this MF effect is discussed through the diamagnetic property and the intralayer interaction of the perylene molecules during the nucleation process.
