A series of novel structurally varied low-coordinate zinc complexes utilizing 1,1,3,3-tetraalkylguanidinate (TAG) ligands were synthesized and characterized. Li(TAG) and lithium bis-trimethylsilylamide, LiN(SiMe3)2, were successfully reacted with ZnCl2 in a 1:1 ratio to yield the corresponding dinuclear complexes with the general formula [Zn(μ-TAG){N(SiMe3)2}]2, where TAG = NC{N(CH2CH3)2N(CH3)2} (DEDMG, 1), (PYRDMG, 2), (PYRDEG, 3), (DPYRG, 4), (PIPDMG, 5) and (PIPDEG, 6). Compounds 1–6 were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The bulk powders for all complexes were found to be in agreement with the crystal structures based on elemental analyses, FT-IR spectroscopy, and 1H and 13C NMR studies.
