Synthesis and electrochemical behavior of novel peripherally and non-peripherally substituted ball-type cobalt phthalocyanine complexes

► Ball-type cobalt phthalocyanines substituted at the non-peripheral and peripheral positions with 4,4′-(9H-fluorene-9,9-diyl)diphenol are presented. ► The ball type complexes show some intermolecular interaction between the Pc rings. ► The ball type complexes exhibit one step two electron processes electrochemically. ► The non-peripherally substituted complex is easier to oxidize and more difficult to reduce than the peripherally substituted complex.
