The preparation, structures and magnetic properties of the new magnetic materials [MnCl2Saloph(NCS)](PhCN) and [MnX2Saloph(NCS)] (X = Br and I) are reported. Regardless of the halogen employed, in the crystals, the complexes form dimers, in which two neighboring [MnX2Saloph(NCS)] molecules are connected through short intermolecular MnO contacts of 2.534(2), 2.537(4) and 2.532(4) Å for X = Cl, Br and I, respectively. The magnetic measurements revealed that the short contacts bring ferromagnetic intra-dimer interactions of 2J/kB = 6.3, 6.2 and 4.7 K for X = Cl, Br and I, respectively, while small inter-dimer overlaps lead to weak anti-ferromagnetic inter-dimer interactions.
New molecule based magnetic materials [MnCl2Saloph(NCS)](PhCN) and [MnX2Saloph(NCS)] (X = Br, I) are reported.
