The reactions of SbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) with N-methylbenzothiazole-2-thione (mbtt) and N-methylbenzothiazole-2-selone (mbts). Formation of the mixed mer/fac-complex [mer-SbBr3(mbts)2(μ-mbts)fac-SbBr3(mbts)2]·CH2Cl2

The products obtained from the reactions of N-methylbenzothiazole-2-thione (mbtt) and N-methylbenzothiazole-2-selone (mbts) with SbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) in CH2Cl2 are dependent on the halogen and the donating chalcogen atom. The reactions of both ligands with SbCl3, and the reaction of mbtt with SbBr3 yield 2:1 complexes [SbX3L(μ-L)2SbX3L], whilst the reaction of mbts with SbBr3 produces the unusual mer/fac-complex, [mer-SbBr3(mbts)2(μ-mbts)fac-SbBr3(mbts)2].CH2Cl2. In contrast, the reactions of both ligands with SbI3 yield 1:1 polymeric complexes, {[SbI2L(μ-I)]}n.
