• The N-alkylacridones were synthesized by palladium cross-coupling reaction.
• The obtained acridone chromophores emit in blue and green region.
• The CV measurements present high electrochemical stability of the obtained polymers.
• The electrochemical band gap of selected acridone polymer was found as 2.13 eV.
• Formation of polarons and bipolarons during redox process was observed.
The acridone–arylene conjugated units have been designed and synthesized via Stille type palladium catalyzed coupling reaction. The structures and properties of the synthesized compounds were characterized by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, MS, absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy as well as electrochemical measurements. The luminescence studies demonstrate that acridones are good type of chromophores. Also the electrical properties of obtained films confirm the applicable potential of these novel aryl-based π-conjugated polymers for the development of various emitters in electro- and chemiluminescence.
