Effect of crystallization temperature on the dielectric property and energy density of SrO–BaO–Nb2O6–B2O3 glass–ceramics

• The SrO–BaO–Nb2O5–B2O3 system glass–ceramics were prepared.
• The dielectric breakdown performance and activation energy are closely related.
• The crystallization temperature influences the energy-storage density.
• The interfacial polarization can be characterized by impedance spectroscopy.

A SrO–BaO–Nb2O6–B2O3 glass–ceramic was prepared by controlled-crystallization method, and the phase evolution and dielectric properties were investigated. The correlation between the dielectric breakdown performance and the activation energy was studied by the measurements of the dielectric breakdown strength and impedance spectroscopy as a function of crystallization temperature in a SrO–BaO–Nb2O6–B2O3 glass–ceramics. It was found that dielectric breakdown strength strongly depended on the interface polarization. The crystallization temperature dependence of breakdown strength was attributed to the variation in interfacial polarization based on the results of impedance analysis. The prepared glass–ceramic crystallized at 800 °C exhibited a breakdown strength of 1050 kV/cm, a dielectric constant of 117 and a high energy storage density of 5.71 J/cm3.
