Eu2+ activated RbCl-MgCl2 phosphors for solid state lighting

► 2RbCl⋅MgCl2:Eu2+ phosphor synthesized by a simple wet chemical method. ► Intense blue emission observed with colour coordinates 0.15, 0.028. ► Eu2+ → Mn2+ energy transfer observed leading to yellow Mn2+ emission. ► Phosphor may be used for solid state lighting using near UV chips.
