The Faraday effects in one-dimensional magneto-optical photonic crystals are theoretically analyzed by transfer matrix method. The analysis show that a rotation close to 45° with a thickness of the multilayer films less than 8 μm can be realized, although the transmittance is less than 50%. In order to enhance the transmittance, a new rotation is considered, such as 15° or 22.5°. Firstly, the thickness of the magneto-optical layer is increased by n time, where n is integer. When n is 2 or 3, a rotation close to 15° or 22.5° is realized and the transmittance is more than 80%. In order to eliminate further transmittance loss, double stacks is introduced. The results show that the 100% transmittance can be obtained for 22.5° and 15°. Since our research revealed that the rotation can be adjusted precisely and the transmittance is 100%, it is suggested that the multilayer film can be used to make a low loss isolators.
► We investigate the asymmetric and symmetric structure.
► I obtain a rotation close to 45° with a thickness of 7.637 μm.
► Through optimization for the structure, we obtain 100% transmission at 22.5° and 15°.
