Promising metal matrix composites (TiC/Ni–Cr) for SOFC interconnect applications were proposed in this paper. 60 vol.% TiC/Ni–Cr composites with 98.7% theoretical density were fabricated by pressureless infiltration process. The microstructure and phase evolution during fabrication can be attributed to the effects of dissolution–reprecipitation, coalescence and coherent strain energy. Moreover, the coherent interface between TiC and C2MoTi, and semi-coherent interface between C2MoTi and Cr2Ni3 (metal matrix) were observed by the high resolution TEM. The appropriate and linear thermal expansion, excellent mechanical and electrical properties obtained demonstrates that the TiC/Ni–Cr composites are feasible for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) interconnect applications.
