The mechanism of {3 3 2}〈1 1 3〉 twinning-induced plasticity in a Ti–15Mo alloy was investigated through quantitative evaluation of twinning structure evolution at various tensile strains. A linear relationship between the inverse square root of the dislocation mean free path and the true stress was obtained at strains up to 0.12, indicating that strain hardening was due to dynamic microstructural refinement induced by twinning. Further strain hardening at strains up to 0.24 was mainly brought about by a rapid increase in dislocation density.
