The hydrogen storage behavior of Mg3La and Mg3LaNi0.1

The hydrogen storage properties and microstructure of Mg3La and Mg3LaNi0.1 alloys were investigated by X-ray diffraction and pressure–composition isotherm measurement. Mg3La and Mg3LaNi0.1 alloys can absorb hydrogen at room temperature with rapid hydriding/dehydriding kinetics. The experimental curves of hydrogen absorption kinetics at room temperature can be well fitted by the Avrami–Erofeev equation. The reversible hydrogen storage capacities of Mg3La and Mg3LaNi0.1 are 2.89 and 2.73 wt.%, respectively. The enthalpy and entropy of the Mg3La–H dehydriding reaction were also calculated.
