Effect of zigzag line on the mechanical properties of friction stir welded joints of an Al–Cu alloy

An Al–Cu alloy was friction stir welded, and the effect of the zigzag line in the weld on the mechanical properties of the joints was studied. The zigzag line has no effect on the mechanical properties of the as-welded joint, but seriously deteriorates those of the heat-treated joint.
