Synthesis and characterization of a new quaternary selenide Sr3GeSb2Se8

A new quaternary selenide Sr3GeSb2Se8 has been synthesized at 750 °C from pure elements in a stoichiometric ratio under vacuum. The structure of Sr3GeSb2Se8 contains one-dimensional chains of vertex-sharing tetrahedra [MSe3]∞1 (M = Ge/Sb) and fused double chains of edge-shared square pyramids [M2Se5]∞1 parallel to the b-axis, which are held together by Sr2+ ions.
