This work is focused on study of surface treatment of filler particles with polyaniline (PANI) and the influence on corrosion–inhibition properties in organic coatings. For this reason fillers with non-isometric shape were selected and their efficiency was compared with zinc–aluminum orthophosphate and PANI. The surface of filler particles was covered with PANI-layer during chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline. Model coatings based on two-component waterborne epoxy resin with PVC of 10% were prepared. Mechanical tests were used for the evaluation of resistance of pigmented coatings against mechanical damage. Anticorrosive efficiency was evaluated on the basis of accelerated corrosion tests and immersion test. The corrosion tests were carried out in salt spray chamber and in condensation chamber containing sulfur dioxide.
► Lamellar fillers were covered by polyaniline by chemical oxidative polymerization.
► The surface treatment of particles improved total anticorrosive efficiency of paints.
► The anticorrosive efficiency of fillers was compared with Zn–Al orthophosphate.
► The combination of lamellar filler and polyaniline enhanced mechanical resistance.
