► Crystals of barium tetrakis(maleate) dihydrate are grown for the first time. ► Crystal belongs to monoclinic system with space group P21/c. ► Functional groups are identified by FTIR spectroscopy. ► Interfacial polarization contributes to the dielectric constant at low frequencies. ► Thermal and dielectric studies confirm a three stage decomposition pattern.
