The Cahn–Hilliard theory of phase separation applied to cuprates

The presence of the inhomogeneities in high critical temperature superconductors has been discovered long ago by many different experiments. Its likely that, it is the reason why the fundamental interaction and its explanation has not yet been formulated. We apply here the theory of phase separation of Calm–Hilliard (CH) to the cuprates, in order to make a quantitative study of the intrinsic inhomogeneities. Using current proposals to the upper pseudogap temperature, we take this as the onset of phase separation, that is, T(=Tps. Solving the CH differential equation by a novel finite difference method, we map the process of phase separation. We discuss here the implications of this procedure to understand tunneling experiments.
