Modification of the upconversion spontaneous emission in photonic crystals

► Upconversion (UC) inverse opal (LaPO4:Yb, Tb) photonic crystals were prepared. ► An enhancement of excitation state absorption was realized in the inverse opal. ► UC emission suppression from intermediate excited state was detected in inverse opal. ► An enhancement of UC emission from upper excited state was obtained.
