Magnetic structure of the modulated martensite phase in Ni-Mn-Ga ferromagnetic shape memory alloys

► Difference in the magnetic structure of modulated and non-modulated martensite phase in Mn-rich Ni-Mn-Ga alloy was studied using Mössbauer spectroscopy. ► In contrast to NM martensite two new magnetic sublattices were observed for the 7 M phase. ► The variation in magnetic properties is related to the dispersion in the magnetic moment at the Ni sublattices.
