A unique photofunction of YVO4:Bi3+,Eu3+ nanophosphor: Photoluminescent indication for photochemical decomposition of polyurethane

► A composite film of YVO4:Bi3+,Eu3+ nanophosphor and polyurethane was prepared. ► The composite film exhibits a unique photophysicochemical behavior. ► The nanophosphor shows red photoluminescence under near-UV light irradiation. ► The nanophosphor also acts as a photooxidative decomposer of polyurethane. ► Luminescent intensity becomes an indicator for the decomposition of polyurethane.
