Facile, one-step controlled synthesis of Se nanocrystals in the presence of l-tyrosine

► Se was synthesized via a novel and facile pathway. ► The morphologies and the crystalline phases of Se can be easily controlled. ► Tyrosine is excellent reducing agent and soft template for the synthesis of Se. ► It is possible to provide an excellent route to obtain nanomaterials.
