Half metal↔semiconductor reversible switch in bimetallic sandwich molecular wire via redox reactions

► The quasi one-dimensional molecular wires (MWs) are believed to be the smallest magnets. ► In theoretical works, the charge states are created by arbitrarily adding or removing electrons. ► Injection or removal of electrons from a MW is non-trivial in real processes. ► We demonstrate how to change the charge states of MWs via common and reversible redox reactions.
