Ge-doped hematite nanosheets with tunable doping level, structure and improved photoelectrochemical performance

► Ge-doped hematite with tuned doping levels were achieved using LAL-induced unique precursor of Ge colloids. ► Location of the Ge dopants in lattice of hematite is dependent upon the doping level. ► Doping of Ge into the hematite phase led to improved photocurrent under solar illumination.
