Prediction of topological insulating behavior in inverse Heusler compounds from first principles

► We investigate the topological band structures of the inverse Heusler compounds. ► Many of the compounds investigated naturally exhibit an inverted band structure. ► The Y-Z sublattice dominates the sign of topological band inversion strength. ► The band topology is sensitive to the variation of lattice constant and strain.
