Study of the scale effect on diagonal crack propagation in concrete beams

► Longitudinally reinforced concrete beams without stirrups were examined. ► The scale effect on diagonal shear failure was analyzed. ► Effective length-to-depth ratio leff/d, differed in the beams. ► Differences of crack propagation were observed in tests. ► Numerical simulation confirmed the influence of leff/d on shear failure.
