► Effect of weld and geometric discontinuity on formability of TWBs is investigated. ► The GTN model is used to assess the failure. ► Geometric discontinuity decreases the dome height more than the weld region. ► Neglecting the weld region in simulation runs does not affect the limiting strains. ► Neglecting the weld region in simulation runs affects the limiting dome height.
