► By using a main cell, we found the mapping relation between finite element nodes and coarse grains. ► Then a multi-scale method from coarse grain to finite element is developed for polymer. ► This new method transmits deformation seamlessly across different length scales. ► The fracture of polymer is investigated to reveal its micro-mechanism.
