In the present manuscript the finite element method (FEM) simulations on the deformation and failure of composite are conducted systemically by integrating with the related quasi-static, dynamic and high-speed impact tests. The corresponding deformation and failure characteristics are discussed in detail, especially the shear banding behaviors, including the initiation and propagation of shear band, and the shear banding-induced failure, are emphasized. Furthermore, the influences of various internal and external factors on the mechanical behaviors of composite are analyzed. Related analysis shows that the reinforced fibers could improve effectively the plasticity of composite. Moreover, several factors, e.g., the volume fraction of fiber and the mechanical property of fiber material, have significant influence on the mechanical behavior of composite, and the strain rate also plays an important role for the deformation mode. The corresponding deformation and failure characteristics depend firmly on the impact of shear band from the MG matrix onto the reinforced fibers.
