The influence of Zn additions on the microstructure and creep resistance of high pressure die cast magnesium alloy AE44

► Zn was added to high pressure die cast magnesium alloy AE44. ► Microstructural stability in the AE44-based alloys was investigated. ► Zn additions results in a significant decrease in creep resistance (CR). ► Decrease of CR is due to a transition in intermetallics and dynamic precipitation.
