Preparation, microstructure and deformation behavior of Zr-based metallic glass/porous SiC interpenetrating phase composites

► New metallic glass/porous SiC interpenetrating phase composite (IPC) was prepared. ► The specific strength of the IPC is 20% higher than the monolithic metallic glass. ► The compressive fracture mode changes from a shear mode to an axial splitting one. ► Fractographies and microstructural evolution consist with deformation behavior. ► Stress concentration at interface tips is responsible for fracture mode change.
