High temperature processing of Mg–Zn–Y alloys containing quasicrystal phase for high strength
چکیده انگلیسی

A process to obtain high strength in a Mg–Zn–Y alloy containing quasicrystalline phase is described. The process involves solutionizing at a high temperature, precipitation of the quasicrystal phase during extrusion, followed by ageing. Tensile yield strengths of over 350 MPa are obtained with grain sizes of 14–20 μm.


► A process for high strength in Mg–Zn–Y alloys containing quasicrystalline phase.
► Solutionizing at high temperature, hot extrusion and ageing.
► Formation of nano-quasicrystal phase during extrusion. Fine precipitation of β1′.
► Tensile yield strengths of over 350 MPa, with grain sizes of 14–20 μm.
► Compressive yield strengths of about 250 MPa, ductility 8–14%.
