Lattice stability and thermal equation of state of β-La from first-principles calculations

► We investigated the lattice stability and thermal equation of state of β-La. ► We reproduced the dip along [111] direction in the phonon calculation. ► The large softening around the L point indicates a structural instability under pressure. ► We predict the accurate thermal equation of state at high pressure and high temperature.
