Model calculations of the energy band structures of double stranded DNA in the presence of water and Na+ ions

► The Hartree-Fock band structures of periodic (G-C or A-T) double stranded DNA were calculated. ► The calculations include the sugar-phosphate backbone of the double helix. ► The influence of water and Na+ ions on the band structure of rigid DNA is discussed.
