Iron–platinum–arsenide superconductors Ca10(PtnAs8)(Fe2−xPtxAs2)5

An overview of the crystal structures and physical properties of the recently discovered iron–platinum–arsenide superconductors, Ca10(PtnAs8)(Fe2−xPtxAs2)5 (n=3n=3 and 4), which have a superconducting transition temperature up to 38 K, is provided. The crystal structure consists of superconducting Fe2As2 layers alternating with platinum–arsenic layers, PtnAs8. The upper critical field Hc2Hc2, hydrostatic pressure dependence of superconducting transition temperature TcTc, and normal-state magnetic susceptibility are reported.


► Superconductivity at 38 K was discovered in the Ca–Fe–Pt–As system.
► The crystal structure consists of unique Pt4As8 layers, characterized by As2 dimers.
► Application of hydrostatic pressure suppresses superconductivity.
► TT-linear magnetic susceptibility, indicative of magnetic fluctuation, was observed.
