Nanoindentation studies on precipitation hardening of Ti-rich Ti50.4Ni49.5Si0.1 shape memory ribbons

▶ Precipitation hardening (PH) in Ti-rich SMA ribbon is tested using nanoindentation. ▶ The PH effect comes from the coexistence of nanoscale Ti2Ni/Ti3Ni4 precipitates. ▶ For PHed ribbon, the hardness increment reaches 1 GPa after aging at 773 K for 1 h. ▶ The pseudoelasticiy (PE) of the PHed ribbons is also tested by a nanoindenter. ▶ The PHed ribbons can strengthen the matrix and promote their SME/PE properties.
