Fracture of convoluted and lamellar α2 + γ TiAl alloys

► Fracture toughness of a new TiAITa alloy with convoluted microstructure is measured. ► Measurements are performed at room and high temperature. ► For comparision, same is done on toughest (fully lamellar) know microstructure. ► Toughness values for the convoluted and lamellar microstructures are close. ► This is because the same toughening mechanisms are operative.
