The dependence of magnetoresistivity (MR) on the temperature and the magnetic field for Ce1–xLaxCu4Al (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.6) compounds has been investigated. In the low temperature region, magnetoresistivity exhibits a negative magnetic field dependence due to the Kondo effect. Magnetoresistivity measurements on the Ce1–xLaxCu4Al alloys are analyzed basing on the calculations by Schlottmann for the Bethe-ansatz in the frames of the Coqblin–Schrieffer model. The analysis yields the values of the Kondo temperature TK and effective moment of the Kondo ion μK.

► The low temperature resistivity of Ce1−xLaxCu4Al is very sensitive to the applied magnetic field.
► A negative magnetoresistivity is observed in all the studied alloys. MR is about 5% at T = 2 K in all cases and is typical of the heavy fermion systems.
► Based on the magnetoresistivity measurements at various temperatures and by employing a Schlottmann's model for the Bethe-ansatz solution within the Coqblin–Schrieffer model, the Kondo moment μK and the Kondo temperature TK have been estimated.
► As expected a small, Kondo-screened moments are revealed. TK is decreasing with the content of La, which is probably due to the unit cell volume increase.
