Mo–Cu laminated composites were fabricated by a combined solid-state bonding, which showed a better mechanical property compared with those made by hot-rolling. Taking Mo–Cu as representative, interfacial characterization of the low inter-solubility metal couple was investigated. A narrow area of interdiffusion was observed at the bonding interface, where Mo and Cu were soluble in each other. The strong interfacial strength is potentially explained by solid solution strengthening, dislocation strengthening and metallic bond theory.
