Realisation and application of size dependent FEM-simulation for deep drawing of rectangular work pieces

► The tribological size effect was observed in scaled deep drawing of rectangular parts. ► Applying the friction functions from deep drawing of circular parts into FEM-model the size dependent FEM-simulation was realized for deep drawing of rectangular parts. ► Applying size dependent FEM-simulation the blank shape of micro rectangular deep drawing was optimised to obtain flange free parts. ► The optimised blank shape was validated in experiments.
