Dynamics of fast molecular ions in solids and plasmas: A review of recent theoretical developments

We summarize our recent theoretical studies of dynamic processes taking place when fast diatomic molecules and small clusters impinge upon various targets. In particular, we discuss the vicinage effect on the constituent ion charges in such projectiles and examine its role in the cluster energy deposition in solid foils. In addition, we review the results of our simulations of Coulomb explosions of carbon clusters in solids and plasmas, the effects of laser field on the molecules propagating in plasmas, and vicinage effects on the kinetic electron emission during Coulomb explosion of molecules grazingly scattered off a metal surface. Finally, our most recent results on Coulomb explosion of molecules under channeling conditions through carbon nanotubes are also discussed.
