Annealing temperature effects on ferromagnetism and structure of Si1−xMnx films prepared by magnetron sputtering

► A much higher saturation magnetization is found in the 700 °C annealed sample. ► Substitutional-interstitial Mn dimers were formed after rapid annealing at 700 °C. ► The ferromagnetism is attributed to the interstitial and substitutional Mn atoms.
