► We developed multiple echo reflection ultrasound spectroscopy. ► The attenuation coefficient, the sound velocity and the density ρ of a solution were evaluated. ► The technique was further developed to analyze systems undergoing gelation. ► A small gap between the cell wall and the sample was taken into account.
