Enhanced luminescence of Tb3+ by efficient energy transfer from Ce3+ in Sr2B5O9Cl host

► Intense green phosphors Sr2B5O9Cl: Ce3+, Tb3+ phosphors were prepared. ► PL intensity of Tb3+ was enhanced greatly by the introduction of sensitizer Ce3+. ► The energy transfer process between Ce3+ and Tb3+ was investigated in detail.
