چکیده انگلیسی
Simulation calculations have been performed to explore the maximum magnetic field that can be achieved with small single coil pulsed magnets. Peak magnetic fields of up to 100Â T and even above seem feasible if the current density distribution within the winding is optimized for equal stress and temperature, and modern reinforcement materials, such as Zylon, are used. Compared to high-field two-coil systems, these monocoil magnets are very cost effective and energy efficient, and require only one energy source, among other advantages. Recommendations for the development of high-strength conductors with the focus on high conductivity are introduced, which result from the wish to have relatively long pulses in the 10-30Â ms range. The highly efficient design needs less than 2Â MJ for a 10Â mm bore, 10Â ms pulse magnet, or 5.3Â MJ for a 15Â mm bore, 30Â ms pulse magnet. The magnet design follows the polyhelix concept and the successful test coils developed at the NHMFL for 65Â T and 75Â T monocoil user magnets. We describe the results of the simulation calculations, scaling, the magnet design concept, reinforcement requirements, and the conductor development needs.
