The RPC current time structure. Fast current peak measurement in the ATLAS RPC system

We have developed an analog RPC read out based on the observation of the signal produced in the high voltage circuit by many simultaneous particles crossing the same gas gap. The proposed method allows to measure particle densities by far much larger that those accessible to the standard digital read out. We applied this method to study with the ATLAS RPC system the beam “splash” events produced by LHC at the beginning of its activity.
