Status of the technology of the current space missions including the Fermi gamma-ray space telescope

We review the status of X-rays and γ-raysγ-rays space missions operational in 2009. We provide highlights of the current semiconductor technology instrumentation and briefly discuss challenges to be addressed by future missions.
